Ed Tenney is Newport's new boys hoop coach

    NEWPORT - Ed Tenney is Newport's new boys basketball coach. Tenney will take over this coming season and was unamiously approved by the Newport School Board at a recent meeting.

Tenney led the Kearsarge girls hoop team to more than 300 wins, a pair of Class I titles and five overall championship game appearances in 18 seasons in North Sutton. He stepped down as coach of the Cougars after the 2007-2008 season in order to take a break and to watch his three children play basketball in Sunapee.

Newport athletic director Doug Beaupre selected Tenney early on as his top candidate and spent nearly two months working out the details to coax one of New Hampshire's top basketball coaches out of retirement.

Tenney has already met with the Tigers and is preparing them for Lebanon High School's competitive summer league.
